The Music

When people ask me what kind of music I play, I always have difficulty defining it. I don’t really know if it’s progressive, tribal, mid-range, tech, Iberican or just plain old funky house, but I reckon if you get enough of each ingredient and mix it up, you’re about there.

I like tracks that move the dancefloor, that tell a story, that mix dark, driving basslines and dramatic rhythms with clever vocals or vocal samples, bent-out-of-shape synths and the odd filter and effect for good measure.

I don’t like boring tracks, unimaginative retreads of supposed ‘classics’ or dull filler components used by DJs ‘cleverer’ or more pretentious than me who are trying to ‘educate’ the crowd, rather than give everyone a good time.

The Influences

My influences range from the old underground clubs of New York to the electric atmosphere of sweaty parties in Barcelona via my favourite London clubs of old: Trade, FF, Heaven on a Friday (Garage) and the Fridge (Daisy Chain/Ciao Baby). My musical ‘roots’ are in the electronic music of the early 1980s (Depeche Mode, Japan, Yazoo, Human League, Heaven 17) and early house music, so you’ll often find references or echoes in my mixes.

The Reality

I have no illusions. DJing is a hobby for me, something I love, and I love sharing my music tastes and new discoveries with the crowd, but I know why they’re there: to have a good time, get off their heads, pick up and then tell their friends what a good time they had. I’m just there to supply the tunes.

My favourite DJ quote of all time is from Seb Fontaine, who said he thought that DJing was “80% about playing the right records, 10% about playing them in the right order and 10% about the mixing”.

I like to think that my mixing is perhaps more important than that, so I try to get it right every time, but ultimately my crowd, at London’s premier bear club Megawoof, are a discerning bunch. They know what they don't like, so I try to give ‘em what they do!

The Summary

I hope you enjoy my website and mixes. Thanks for dropping in.

Before I go, thanks to Fraser, the master who designed this site for me, and to my promoters Daz and Didz without whose support – and continued faith – my DJing would be the stuff of bedroom fantasy rather than monthly mayhem at one of London’s most pumping clubs.
